Breaking Down UFC Vegas 44: Font vs Aldo

Boston, MA STAND UP. Rob Font main events in the octagon tonight in what is undoubtedly the biggest fight of his life against one of the greatest mixed martial artists of all time in the Brazilian king of Rio Jose Aldo in what is a highly anticipated bantamweight main event with massive title implications moving forward.

Lets break it down. #4 Rob Font (-140) vs #5 Jose Aldo (+120). This is a crazy matchup. I see this being a chess match to start and I believe this will bleed into the championship rounds and has the potential to go the distance. If Aldo can utilize his leg kicks and compromise Font’s leg to start the fight then this is going to swing in Aldo’s favor very quickly. Both of these guys looked great their last fight. But, Font had a higher level of competition in Cody Garbrandt. His boxing was crisp and his jab is one of the best in the sport. If Font can utilize his reach advantage like he did vs Garbrandt i believe we see him walk out of this fight with a W. If he can take this fight into the championship rounds, it will favor Font greatly as Aldo will slow down.

Rob Font is peaking in his career and his confidence seems to be at a new level. I think this is going to be a huge factor for him. Him and Tyson Chartier at the New England Cartel are really going to make some noise here. I think Rob wins this by Unanimous Decision and gets one step closer to a world title shot. Lets go beantown.

Other fights to look out for are the co main event, in what is likely to be the fight of the night as #12 Brad Riddell (+105) takes on #14 Rafael Fiziev (-125) in a lightweight bout between rising contenders. I mentioned this on the preview show that I can see the winner of this fight going into 2022 with a ton of momentum and potentially being the top 5 at this time next year. This will be a war and its a hard one to predict but Im going with the slight favorite here in Rafael Fiziev.

People are sleeping on this Light Heavyweight bout between #13 Jimmy Crute (-170) and #14 Jamahal Hill (+150). I think Crute bounces back from that nasty leg injury back in April and looks crisp tonight. I know im going with a lot of favorites tonight but that’s how i see it for now. I just don’t love the dogs too much tonight which means they will all win.

All in all, this is a FANTASTIC fight night card. I wish it was starting earlier but whatever. 10 pm LIVE on ESPN for FREE. If i had to recommend to a friend, I would say tune in to the top 3 fights. All ranked matchups that are all for sure going to be bangers. Tons on the line tonight in the UFC Apex. Lets…go.

Make sure to tune in to our preview show before tonights card. Gambling, analysis and some fun back and forth banter. BANG!
