Joel Embiid Positive for COVID; Enters Health and Safety Protocol
Sixers big man Joel Embiid has been out for the past ~week after testing positive for COVID. Unfortunately for Joel (and the Sixers), he has experienced symptoms and hasn’t been able to do anything basketball-related since the diagnosis. While he is eligible to return tomorrow vs the Nuggets, expectations are that he will not return as he 1) recovers from the illness 2) gets back in basketball shape 3) tests negative twice and 4) finishes his quarantine period.
More from The Inquirer’s Keith Pompey:
“I’m hearing, it’s fluid. The earliest he can return is Thursday (Nov. 18). I’m hearing it could be a little later than that because he was symptomatic when he contracted Covid-19. Not only does he have to get the two negative tests and quarantine, Joel is one of these guys that when he takes time off, he’s a big guy and easily gets out of shape. He hasn’t been doing anything basketball-wise.
It’s been a tough few weeks for the Sixers. After initially losing Tobias Harris to a positive COVID test a few weeks back, the team also lost Matisse Thybulle, Isaiah Joe, Danny Green, and Embiid. This injury/COVID wave has given some of the young players time to shine (looking at you, Tyrese) but hasn’t translated into wins as they are currently on a five-game skid and got shellacked by the Jazz last night in Utah.
Get well soon, Jo. The squad needs ya!
