Breaking Down UFC 267: Blachowicz vs Teixeira

FIGHT DAY! We have a major DAY TIME card starting at 2:00 pm est and 10:30 am est for the prelims for FREE on ESPN. Taking place in Abu Dhabi, this card will feature 2 world championship fights and tons of top contenders matchups with massive implications.

The Light heavyweight title is on the line as Jan Blachowicz (-300) takes on #1 Glover Teixeira (+235) in a great matchup of 2 fighters that have come a looong way to get tot his point. I think Jan by decision is most likely butI can totally see him getting the finish as well. I think he’ll dictate the range a little bit more than Glover,Β  who’s run lately is impressive how he’s won so many fights. But he hasn’t beaten the top-level guys. If Glover can get it to the ground early and establish control, he’ll have a good shot at winning, but I see Jan piecing him up on the feet and remaining the world champ.

How bout this co-main event tho? The Interim Bantamweight title is on the line as #1 Petr Yan (-235) takes on #3 Cory Sandhagen (+190) in an INSANE stylistic matchup. I smell an upset here. If Cory can manage the distance, go first, stay busy and keep the fight at kicking range, get up on points, he can win this thing. Don’t stand there and box with him Petr. He’s gotta stay away from the rolls he was doing against Dillashaw. He has to stay outside, move, keep touching him with the kicks and land a big one. And I believe he can do it. I see Sandhagan winning a very close decision.

Lets run down the rest of the main card here. #5 Islam Makhachev vs #6 Dan Hooker in a huge lightweight bout is an interesting one. Makhachev is a -650 favorite here and for good reason. He’s one of the most dominant fighters on the roster and is essentially Khabib 2.0. I think he slowly mauls Hooker here, especially being on short notice. I don’t hate Hooker by finish at +600 i mean thats just insanity. But, Makhachev is about as good as the lines say and he’ll have a massive coming out party this afternoon.

This heavyweight matchup between #5 Alexander Volkov and #8 Marcin Tybura is going to be a slugfest. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Tybura at +230 here. Im hammering that allll day long and fully expect that to cash baby.

The return of Khamzat Chimaev as a -550 favorite taking on #11 welterweight Li Jingliang is an enticing fight. Chimaev is coming off a major battle with Covid and im curious to see how his lungs hold up in the cage. I expect him to win but being as big a favorite as he is after a year long layoff and a scary situation with Covid does make me concerned. But that concern and be erased as soon as the first round bell hits.

To open to the main card, we have a light heavyweight bout between #7 Magomed Ankalaev and #8 Volkan Oezdemir. I feel bad for Oezdemir here. I think he gets finished in the first round by Ankalev who very well could be a future world champ here.

The rest of the prelims are solid as well as there is a massive international presence on this card. There are 6 or 7 Dagestani fighters on this card. Do you know how insane that is? They are probably all favored and are al going to win. Dagestan, Russia is quickly becoming the top hub for fighters in the world and its not even a debate. This card is riddled with future world champions, future title challengers and top contenders. Be on the lookout for these up and comers. It’s going to be a GOOD one. Annnnd its for free annnnd its at 2:00 est?? What beats that. Nothing.
