After winning the College Football Playoff in 2019 Ed Orgeron became a household name. Orgeron is from Larose, Louisana, and speaks with a thick Cajun accent. He’s firey and looked to be the perfect head coach for the Tigers. Not even two years later LSU has a record of 9-8 since winning it all and has taken a step backward as a program.
There have been rumors surrounding the program that Coach O would be let go, but nothing concrete until Sunday morning after a big win against Florida. Ross Dellenger of Sports Illustrated reported that LSU and Orgeron have reached a separation agreement, and he will not return for the 2022 season. According to Dellenger the negotiations began last week.
#LSU and Ed Orgeron have reached a separation agreement: He will not return in 2022 but expected to complete this season, sources tell @SINow.
Negotiations began last week before UF win.
It’s unprecedented in the sport – coach & school divorcing 21 months after winning it all.

The football program hasn’t been meeting expectations, but they haven’t been terrible. The separation most likely stems from the relationship between Orgeron and LSU administration. Since the championship, there has been tension between the two entities. Distrust, management of the program, and Orgeron’s brash behavior seem to have ruined this once-promising relationship. The biggest question now is what will happen to Ed Orgeron? Will he try to get another gig, or will he sail off into the bayou?
