The Marshall Thundering Herd travel to Boone North Carolina to take on the Appalachian State Mountaineers. The Herd are coming off of a loss to East Carolina, where the Pirates rallied to score 21 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to win. Appalachian State just defeated FCS Elon, where the week before they pushed Miami to the limit before dropping that game in the fourth quarter. We will have an underrated quarterback duel in Chase Brice vs Grant Wells. They have a common opponent in ECU, where Grant Wells for Marshall put up 433 passing yards, where App State’s Chase Brice threw for 259 and two touchdowns. For the Herd look for Rasheen Ali on the ground and Corey Gammage in the air to help the Marshall offense get something going against this good App State defense. The Mountaineers Chase Brice will rely heavily on star receiver Thomas Hennigan to expose Marshall’s secondary.
Verdict: (O59.5) I really like the over in this game. App State will most likely control the line of scrimmage but look to Marshall to control the air and take more shots down the field. Marshall makes their living on big plays, anticipate them connecting on once or twice. For the remainder of the game, the Mountaineer defense will force Marshall to drive the field, and that is where the Herd will have a costly turnover. Thomas Hennigan will have a big day for App State and lead them to a victory. If you are looking for an extra bet. I also like App State -7.
