Breaking Down UFC Vegas 37: Smith vs Spann

We have a Light Heavyweight matchup between two contenders looking to get one step closer to a world title shot. #6 Anthony Smith (-165) goes up against #11 Ryan Spann (+135).

For me, Anthony Smith is just far too experienced to lose this matchup. He has nearly double the fights that Spann has. I can see Anthony Smith by submission or TKO on the ground, in either the first or second round. I don’t think he’ll take him down and submit him right away. He’ll eventually get the takedown, wear him out on the ground and then finish with some nasty elbows.

We just haven’t seen enough out of Spann yet to make me think he can beat Anthony at this point in time. I originally had liked Spann’s odds here. But the lack and difference in experience is VERY underrated in this sport.

Other names to look out for tonight,  Ion Cutelaba, #14 Lightweight Arman Tsarukyan, Joaquin Buckley, Mike Rodriguez (Dorchester, MA STAND UP).

All in all, this is a slower card but the main event is still a very high level affair that will certainly get the winner one step closer to a world title shot.
