Gabriel Landeskog To Test Free Agency?

Interesting developments coming out of Colorado over the last few days. If you listened to insider trading, Darren Dreger mentions that Colorado and forward Gabriel Landeskog are far apart on a contract extension.

Landeskog is 28 years old and has spent his entire career in Colorado. The star left winger and captain from the Avs has been a key part of the success of the Avalanche over the last few seasons. Landeskog has scored 20 or more goals in 8 of his 10 seasons. If him and the Avalanche can’t get closer on a deal, you can bet he will become one of the hottest free agent targets out there.

Landeskog next contract could have a cap hit anywhere from the $7-$8 million depending on the term. I haven’t seen too much as to what he is looking for years wise but he deserves to get paid based off his production. Obviously, he has greatly benefited from playing with one of the best players in the world in Nathan MacKinnon but Landeskog is still an incredibly talented player.

If him and the Avs can’t come to an agreement I will be pretty shocked. We are just two weeks away from the start of NHL Free agency and this is a huge name that could be joining the market.
