Lightning Strikes Twice

For the first time since the 2015-17 Pittsburgh Penguins, we have a back to back Stanley Cup Champion. The Tampa Bay Lightning have secured their second consecutive Stanley Cup after defeating the Montreal Canadiens winning the series 4-1.

Games 1-3 for the most part were lopsided in favor of the Lightning but we had the two best games of the series in games 4 and 5. Credit where credit is due as I have been a hater on this Canadiens team all year and time and time again they proved me wrong. Carried by the great goaltending of Carey Price, along with solid depth they were able to sneak their way into the playoffs and get all the way to the Cup Final. But at the end of the day they ran into an absolute juggernaut in the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Ross Colton as everyone predicted was the hero tonight as he scored the only goal of the game and will now go down as a Stanley Cup clinching goal scorer.

The defense and the goaltending would be the story the rest of the way as Tampa was able to shut down the Canadiens and secure the 1-0 game 5 win.

From top to bottom this Lightning team is stacked and for the second year in a row they proved it. After another solid regular season without one of their top guys in Nikita Kucherov, they welcomed him back with open arms for the start of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Kucherov looked like he hadn’t missed a beat and led the team in points during the playoffs.

Andrei Vasilevskiy has solidified himself as the best goaltender in the world right now as he was just lights out during this entire playoff run. Rightfully so he ended up winning the Conn Smythe award as the MVP of the playoffs.

It didn’t matter what Montreal did Tampa was just too much as we are witnessing a team that is slowly turning into the newest dynasty. You can complain about them beating the system and being $18 million over the cap but thats not their fault blame the league. They’ve got a lineup full of superstars and depth players that know their role and are constantly producing. Backed by solid defense and the best goaltender in the world as much as I wish it was the Flyers this Lightning team over the past two years has been fun to watch. At the end of the day if you’re a fan of the sport you just have to sit back and enjoy this incredible run they are on. With the off-season coming up obviously they will need to make some changes but don’t be surprised if they are right back in the Stanley Cup Final next season.

That’s a wrap for the 2021 NHL season but don’t worry I’ll have you covered for all the offseason news and it’ll be October before we know it. Make sure you’re following me on Twitter and make sure to favorite the Branded Sports website so you can check out all of our amazing bloggers.
