The North Division playoffs are finally underway and we had game one between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Montreal Canadiens. In what was a hard hitting physical battle between these two Canadien teams there were two big stories to come out of this first game.
First, we had one of the scariest incidents we have seen in a long time in an NHL game as John Tavares took a hit fell to the ice and then got drilled in the head by Corey Perry. You can see the video below…
I mean this is just brutal and pretty tough to watch. I think we all know this wasn’t intentional by Perry and just happened to be a freak accident but man this just doesn’t look good. Tavares had to be taken off the ice in a stretcher and was taken to the hospital. He did give the thumbs up which is a good sign, but we aren’t too sure of his condition as of yet. Hopefully he makes quick recovery and is back on the ice soon for the Leafs.
The second story coming out of this game is the fact that the Leafs dropped game one to the Canadiens. It was a Paul Byron shorthanded goal that did them in and you gotta think for a team that has struggled in the playoffs, their fanbase can’t be too comfortable right now.
The Leafs are going to need a lot more out of their top guys in game two especially now without Tavares. It’ll be an interesting series going forward and you can only bet the physical play is only going to intensify.
