My god these games have been so god damn incredible and it’s only been three days. Last night two more series started and we had our first game two. Oh and did you say you wanted more overtime? Well good news, you got it.
Boston Bruins vs Washington Capitals
After losing game one in overtime, the Boston Bruins were poised to even up the series. Charlie Coyle gave the Bruins and early lead that didn’t last long at all. Just over a minute later TJ Oshie would tie it up. Both teams would add another first period goal to head into the second tied at 2. We’d stay that way until the third period where a Garnet Hathaway goal would give the Caps a third period lead. Craig Anderson did everything he could to hold the lead for the Caps but Taylor Hall wouldnt be denied as he tied the game late sending it to overtime. It would take Brad Marchand only 39 seconds to pot the game winning goal and we officially now have ourselves a series.
Series tied 1-1
Carolina Hurricanes vs Nashville Predators
The only bad thing about the early rounds are the multiple games going on at once. Even with two TVs it’s hard to keep up with all the action. One thing that couldn’t go unnoticed was the packed crowd the Hurricanes had for this game. Something we haven’t seen in an NHL game in almost 14 months. On the ice both teams brought the same energy that the fans did. It was a physical game that the Hurricanes were able to pull off thanks to a two goal game from Jordan Staal. In my opinion I think this could be the one series we see a first round sweep. I really think Carolina is just that much better than Nashville and the 5-2 win last night verified that for me.
Carolina Hurricanes lead series 1-0
Colorado Avalanche vs St.Louis Blues
These two teams don’t like each other and that was apparent pretty early on. While on paper the Avs are the far better team they were letting the Blues hang around for the first 40 minutes. We were tied 1-1 after two periods but in the third it was the Nathan MacKinnon show. He scored just 30 seconds into the period and later added an assist on a Landeskog goal. He capped the night off with an empty net goal to give the Avs the 4-1 victory. Jordan Binnington can only do so much for St.Louis and they are going to need a lot more out of their offense if they want to make this a competitive series.
Colorado Avalanche lead series 1-0
Tonight the action continues with three game twos. The Penguins and Islanders get the night started then we have the Panthers and Lightning. We end the night with the Wild and Golden Knights as the late game.
