Well it looks like Chuck Fletcher isn’t just sitting around playing solitaire on his computer today after all…As you can see from the tweet above it appears that Scott Laughton has re-signed with the Philadelphia Flyers. Laughton’s name was thrown around in trade rumors today but as the day progressed teams that were interested in Laughton felt like he was bound to re-sign and not get dealt.
While I love Laughton and didn’t want him to go anywhere I am a little puzzled by the timing of the new contract. Laughton was going to be a UFA at the end of the season and I would have guessed they would have had no problems signing him. What I am confused with is that with the expansion draft coming up you could have waited to sign him so you didn’t t have to protect him in the expansion draft. Now you have to use one of the spots for Laughton and it opens the door for someone else now to be taken by the new Seattle team. Not much time before the trade deadline so we will see if Chuck makes any other moves but It’s not looking like it at all.
