NXT Takeover: Stand & Deliver Night One Preview

Kwals

It is WrestleMania week for the WWE and I’d be lying if I said my excitement level was anywhere close to where it would normally be. I have really fallen out of watching WWE and even wrestling in general, I’ve been too locked into the hockey season. I am going to say something I never thought I would say but I have become a very casual wrestling fan..

But, what better time than to try and dive fully back in than WrestleMania week?!?! While technically it started on Monday with the go home edition of Monday Night Raw, and then the Hall of Fame Ceremony last night which saw the induction of the 2020 and 2021 classes. The real start in my eyes is tonight with day one of NXT Takeover: Stand and Deliver!

In recent years I’ve cared more about NXT than I have Raw or Smackdown and that remains true as I am super excited for these two nights of Takeover. Both nights have some great matches and some intense rivalries so lets take a look at what’s in store for night one as we have three championship matches…

Preshow: 7:00pm on Peacock

Like I said I haven’t been as locked into wrestling as I had been in the past of late but this should be a solid way to start night one. I fully expect Toni Storm to pickup the victory so I feel like that means Stark is going to win to keep building her up.

Main Show: 8:00pm on USA Network and Peacock

Pete Dunne vs Kushida

This match could easily steal the show and is probably my third favorite match between the two nights. Pete Dunne is one of the best in business as is Kushida. Dunne has been involved in some big programs between NXT and NXT UK and has always put on great matches. Kushida hasn’t really been a major player in NXT since his arrival but this could be the start of him getting towards the main event picture. I expect this match to really set the tone for the entire night and it should be absolutely fantastic.

Prediction: Kushida Wins

Gauntlet Match(Winner Faces Johnny Gargano For North American Title Tomorrow Night)

Gauntlet matches are usually really hit or miss and we typically get a surprise winner that could be the case once again tonight. Here are the participants for the Gauntlet match: Leon Ruff, Isaiah “Swerve” Scott, Bronson Reed, Cameron Grimes. Dexter Lumis, and LA Knight. I think the popular pick is Dexter Lumis to win this one but I just don’t see it happening. I’m expecting a solid performance out of LA Knight and I think he will be the one who comes away with the win.

Prediction: LA Knight Wins

NXT Tag Team Championship Match: MSK vs Grizzled Young Veterans vs Legado Del Fantasma

I love triple threat tag team matches, the only thing that could have made it better was if it was a TLC or even just a regular ladder match. The NXT Tag Titles are currently vacant thanks to an injury to Danny Burch. It was a perfect chance to have the titles hanging high above the ring but instead the Cruiserweights get the ladder match. Anyway, this should be a fast paced match and should be very exciting. MSK has been being built up since they arrived and I fully expect them to come away with the win.

Prediction: MSK Wins

NXT UK Championship: Tommaso Ciampa vs Walter(c)

This will be the match of the night I can almost guarantee it. Two just absolute brawlers will go head to head for the NXT UK championship in Ciampa and Walter. I love NXT UK being included with NXT on a weekly basis as it creates some great crossover matches like this. I feel like Walter has held the title for so long and he’s had a great run but this feels like the time for him to lose it. I fully expect Imperium to get involved in some way or another but ultimately I’m picking Ciampa to come out victorious.

Prediction: Tommaso Ciampa Wins

NXT Women’s Championship: Raquel Gonzalez vs IO Shirai(c)

In what has become a very fierce rivalry over the last few weeks the NXT Women’s Championship will be on the line in the main event of night one. IO Shirai faces the dominate Raquel Gonzalez in what is going to be a hard fought match between these two incredible athletes. I was skeptical of Gonzalez when she first burst onto the scene but she has proven how great she can be and I expect her and IO to bring the house down.

Prediction: Raquel Gonzalez Wins
