Last night the New York Islanders made a major splash as they acquired Travis Zajac and Kyle Palmieri from the New Jersey Devils. By making this move its clear that Islanders GM Lou Lamoriello is going all in on this team making a legit run at the Stanley Cup.
After losing Anders Lee for the year due to a leg injury, the Islanders had a hole to fill and they did just that with the additions of Palmieri and Zajac. For a team that is already very dangerous, they have added two more guys that will only make them harder to play against. One of the big things to come out of the trade with the Devils is that the New Jersey is retaining 50% of both players salaries. That’s a pretty huge deal and as our friend over at NHL Rumors Daily pointed out, it gives the Islanders some flexibility to make another big move.
At this point after the recent trade the New York Islanders don’t have many, if any holes on this team. They are a dangerous squad and are going to be extremely tough to play against in the playoffs. So, if they were going to add another piece who would they go after? Could it be Taylor Hall?
It certainly could be Hall but at this point it just seems unlikely but you can never say never. I still think Hall ends up in Canada with the Leafs but I think Boston is going to make a strong push for him as well. The Islanders trade may have been the first domino to fall and now we have to wait and see what other moves come next. The NHL Trade Deadline is on Monday and I’ll have you covered all day with any deals that go down.
