They really couldn’t wait for Mondays deadline to do this? I was looking forward to deadline day having all the fun moves but once again that is not the case as the New York Islanders have made a major splash.
As you can see the New York Islanders seem to be going all in on a run at the Stanley Cup this year after falling in the Eastern Conference Finals last year to the Tampa Bay Lightning. They have acquired Kyle Palmieri and Travis Zajac from their division rival New Jersey Devils.
This move only makes the Islanders better than they already are and I think definitely makes them the new favorite to come out of the East Division. They also got the Devils to retain 50% of the salaries on both players which is going to end up being a common theme with trades this year with the flat cap.
The Islanders have been incredible on home ice this year but their road struggles have been worrisome as they are a 500 team on the road this year. Adding Palmieri and Zajac could be what the Islanders need to get over the hump and bring the Stanley Cup back to long island. They may not be done adding players either as they have still shown interest in Taylor Hall as well. Things are really going to pick up activity wise over these next few days with the deadline being Monday afternoon.
