The Flyers Will Be Facing A Third String Goalie…What Could Go Wrong

This is a huge week for the Philadelphia Flyers and in a turn of events that have actually caught a break for once….

The Boston Bruins could be without their top two starting goaltenders for the upcoming three games they have against the Flyers. Tuukka Rask is already out with an injury and now Jaroslav Halak has tested positive for COVID. That means the Flyers will be facing Dan Vladar for tonights must win game against the Bruins. Vladar has played in three games so far this season and is 2-1-0 with a 2.03 GAA and a .929SV%. Not bad numbers for the 23 year old in his rookie year.

But this is something that the Flyers HAVE to take advantage of. They have a huge opportunity to get right back into the playoff picture with these next two games against Boston and now facing the third string goalie they should have a better chance at beating the Bruins. Yes, Boston is still a solid team in front of their goaltenders but they have shown as of late they are very much a beatable team. This needs to be a game where the Flyers get a lot of shots on the young goaltender early and try and get him off his game quick. Will they do that?

I’d be lying if I said I was confident that the Flyers come out looking like a team on a mission. Historically they have done a great job of making backup goaltenders look like future Hall of Famers against them. It’s one of those things that feels like it is constantly happening and if it happens again tonight I wont be shocked. I can only hope I am completely wrong about this and the Flyers make this kid look like a rookie who doesn’t belong in the NHL yet.

Flyers take on the Bruins tonight at 7pm make sure you check out the @Ginger_Thread Flyers pregame show with myself and Kelsey starting at 6:30pm
