Saturday night before puck drop of the Flyers and Islanders game, Sean Couturier was a late scratch with a lower body injury. The Flyers went on to get blown out by the Islanders as they continue to struggle this season.
Even before the game ended I think it’s safe to say the majority of Flyers fans were worried about how long Coots would possibly be out. Then the reports started coming out about him getting an MRI and the panic only got worse.
Good news though! According to Flyers head coach Alain Vigneault, Couturier is dealing with a hip injury and is going to try and give it a go tonight against the Islanders.
In a normal year I would say give him the next few games off and make sure he’s 100% before putting him back out there. However, the Flyers already suck right now and even a 60% Coots is better than what we’ve been seeing over this season. Yes, I know he’s been in the lineup for most of the year but just imagine how much worse the Flyers would be with him out of the lineup. It’s a sight I don’t want to see, especially against a good team like the Islanders.
Hopefully, Coots feels good after warm ups and gives it a go tonight. If not, we might be in for another long night of watching the Flyers. Thankfully Nate Prosser is out of the lineup as Shayne Gostisbehere is back after being benched. Other than that we’ve got Brian Elliott in the net with Alex Lyon as the backup as they give Carter Hart a full day off so he can get some extra work with the goalie coach. Hart will be between the pipes tomorrow when the Flyers take on the New Jersey Devils.
