Tonight’s Welterweight main event is between 2 of the best fighters on the planet looking to really stamp their name on this division and the sport. 2 men that most casual fans have no idea who they are.
#3 Leon Edwards (-265) vs #13 Belal Muhammad (+215) is gonna be a great one folks. Muhammad took this fight on some short notice a few weeks ago when Khamzat Chimaev pulled out due to Covid. Edwards is a winner of 8 straight while Muhammad has won 4 in a row himself. Edwards hasn’t lost since 2015 BUT he hasnt fought since July 2019. That’s a long fucking time. And while Edwards is certaintly rightful of his spot as a title contender and a likely title shot against Usman if he wins, his resume is great. But he has yet to truly beat a top top contender in their prime. I really like Muhammad in this one as a big underdog. I think he’s sneaking up on the radar here and is going to catapult himself with a big win.
Belal Muhammad gets better every fight you see him. He’s a problem. You’re looking at a guy constantly winning these hard-fought decisions. Can he keep that same pace for five-rounds? That’s the biggest question here.
Muhammad is quite active while Edwards has not been. And while its not all of Edwards fault at all, the inactivity is a genuine concern. I feel like he’s becoming more and more confident in his skill set. I think he finds a way to get it done. The one thing I’m most impressed with Belal is his fight IQ of late. He knows when he needs a takedown, when he should stick with his standup. Belal is able to strike from both stances, has great movement. It’s gonna come down to who can implement their game plan better. And I believe Belal Muhammad gets the upset.
