It’s officially rumor season around the NHL as we are just a few weeks away from the NHL Trade Deadline. That means from now until the deadline on April 12th rumors are going to be swirling about who teams could be trying to move or acquire.
The Flyers are in desperate need of a veteran defenseman and some more scoring. Well they may have found the perfect team that could help them with both needs. The Nashville Predators are open for business as they haven’t gotten off to the best of starts and find themselves on the outside looking in when it comes to the playoffs. That means they could be big time sellers come the deadline.
Two guys that seem to have caught GM Chuck Fletchers eyes are defenseman Mattias Ekholm and forward Mikael Granlund.
While they are just rumors right now there seems to be something brewing between the Flyers and Nashville Predators… According to Tony Androckitis who covers the AHL for InsideAHLHockey, the Nashville Predators had scouts at the Phantoms game this past weekend. Clearly this is them doing homework on some of the Flyers up and coming guys that they could be interested in.
While the main guy that has been drawing the Flyers interest is Ekholm, it appears Granlund is also a guy they might be looking at.
Again this is all just speculation at this point but typical when there’s smoke there’s fire. The Predators aren’t sending scouts to Lehigh Valley just for fun so they are clearly looking for guys they would want in return. Now, if the Flyers are looking to get both of these guys you have to wonder if it would just be one deal or if it would be two separate deals. Ekholm and Granlund would fill the needs of the Flyers and the Preds could use some prospects and draft picks as they head towards a rebuild.
Time will tell if anything comes of this but it is something to keep an eye on for sure.
