Connor McDavid Is This Generations Gretzky

I’ve been watching hockey for as long as I can remember now granted I’m only 25 years old so I missed out on watching some of the all time greats such as Gretzky, Orr, Howe, and Hull. However, I have been lucky enough to see guys like Crosby, Ovechkin, Forsberg, Lindros, and Jagr.

I have nothing but respect for all of these guys that have come before McDavid and as much as I hate to admit it as a Flyers fan Crosby was the best player in the NHL from the time he entered the league until about two years ago. Granted Crosby is still great and is a top five player right not along with Alex Ovechkin but there’s a new number one player in the world and its not even close.

Connor McDavid.

This isn’t a hot take and honestly if you watch hockey at all I think you’d have a hard time disagreeing that he is the best player on the planet right now. The things this guy does night in and night out are just insane and it feels like every time he steps on the ice he does something we’ve never seen before. There are nights were he makes NHL players looks like me during my high school hockey days(Spoiler alert, I wasn’t all that good. I know shocking). I mean just look at some of these highlights…

I mean you can’t watch this highlight tape and not say this dude is on a whole other level than most of the players in the league.

Now again, I never got to see Gretzky play in his prime and I’ve only ever seen highlights of his glory days and yes, he is hands down the best player of all time without a doubt. However, we’re now seeing this generations version of Wayne Gretzky and he may end up being in the conversation of greatest of all time when his career is over. Last night Connor McDavid recorded his 500th career point tying Sidney Crosby for the 8th fastest player to do so of all time. It took him only 369 games to hit the 500 point mark and he is only racking up points at a quicker pace just take a look…

For those that don’t like to do math like myself, that means he’s tallied 100 points in his last 64 games and 200 points in his last 131 games. I’m not genius but that seems like its pretty good eh?

The numbers don’t lie and if you just watch any of the Oilers games you can just see how amazing this dude really is. So yes in my opinion I do believe that he is this generations version of Wayne Gretzky. Is that crazy to say? Maybe, maybe not but he’s doing things most of us have never seen and he only seems to be getting better year after year. Oh and by the way he is still only 24 years old so he’s going to be doing this for a long time to come.

Nobody asked but here is my current top five NHL players…

1.Connor Mcdavid

2.Nathan Mackinnon

3.Sidney Crosby

4.Alex Ovechkin

5. Auston Matthews

Please feel free to argue my top five or be on the right side of history and agree with me. My Twitter is below so please reach out with your comments whether you agree with my take or not I’d love to hear you out.
