The Flyers and Caps met for the first time on Super Bowl Sunday and if you had the Flyers to score the first touchdown of the day you were a big winner! That’s right the Flyers put up 7 on the Washington Capitals in another game where they found a way to win. Once again it wasn’t there best performance but they got the important two points. It was one of those wacky games so I don’t think you can really take too much out of what we saw. The Capitals top line was dominate as Alex Ovechkin, Tom Wilson, and Nick Backstrom combined for 11 points. While the Flyers struggled to contain those three guys, they were able to shut down pretty much everyone else.
Sean Couturier returned to the Flyers lineup which was much needed as Coots would score twice and add an assist for a three point day. Scott Laughton would be the most talked about Flyer though as he had a hat trick in what was probably his best game of the season so far. On top of those two guys leading the way JVR continued his hot streak adding another goal. Carter Hart was good enough in between the pipes and picked up the victory. The defense in front of him wasn’t spectacular but they did their job when it mattered and were able to help secure the 7-4 win.
Tonight will be the Flyers last game until Sunday when they take on the New York Rangers due to their games against the Devils being postponed due to the Devils COVID outbreak. The Flyers had their own scare with COVID as Travis Sanhiem has been added to the COVID list and we are unsure of his return. These few days off could really benefit the Flyers as they will get some much needed practice time to hopefully tighten things up and get back to the high level we know they are capable of playing at.
