The other night got off to a really bad start as David Pastrnak scored just 12 seconds into the game and the Flyers were pretty much dominated the entire first period. I mean it was one of the worst period of hockey we’ve seen out of this team in a long time. While the second period wasn’t all that great we started seeing the turn of the tide for the Flyers as they really upped their play and thank to Kevin Hayes we would head to the third tied at 1. The first ten minutes of the third period were wonderful. The Flyers were looking more and more like themselves and thanks to goals by Jake Voracek and Joel Farabee they would take a 3-1 lead. Everything was going fine and all the Flyers had to do was hold on…They didn’t. David Pastrnak would score his second goal of the night and then would add his third with just 14 seconds left after a questionable penalty call on Kevin Hayes. Scott Laughton would take a penalty at the end of the third which would give the Bruins a 4 on 3 for the overtime where Patrice Bergeron would score to give the Bruins the win.
Look, it wasn’t a great game by any means for the Flyers but there were more positives to build off of in this game than they have had in some of their wins. Our defense has been our biggest struggle but at least in my eyes I am starting to see a little bit of improvement. I think the forwards are also doing a better job of helping out in their own end as well as spending a little more time in the other teams zone. It’s no secret how much this team misses Coots and the fact that we are as good as we are record wise without him is pretty damn impressive. Coots could be back as early as next week and that will only help this team get their full mojo back. Give it a few more games and I think we are going to finally start seeing the Flyers team that we saw last year before COVID stopped the season.
