THE VERGE — Samsung is working on a robot that can pick up laundry, load the dishwasher, set the table, pour wine, and even bring you a drink. The robot is called Bot Handy, and Samsung says it’ll be able to recognize objects using a camera and AI.
The bot is meant to be “an extension of you in the kitchen, living room, and anywhere else you may need an extra hand in your home,” Sebastian Seung, president of Samsung Research, said during Samsung’s CES press conference today.
I know from the jump, this is going to freak some people out. Robots are going to kill us and all that stuff. Fair enough point.
Buuuuuuuuuuut think about it. No loading the dishes, no folding your laundry and on top of all that, you don’t have to go back upstairs to get another drink. This is a dream come true. Folding clothes is the absolute worst. Washing them is just dumping them in the washer and moving to the dryer. It requires nothing, no brain power or real labor. Folding clothes you’re like covered in sweat almost immediately. It’s awful.
But this is all of that just poof, gone. Sign me up. And yes I see the issue here. Robot that can uncork a bottle of wine can probably murder you too. Yeah probably, but that’s a risk I’m willing to take. And little pro tip for everyone out there. I make sure to always say please and thank you to my Alexia. Annnnnnnnnnnd I tell her goodnight every night. Just incase robots do decide to take over and take us all out. I know I’ll be taken care of as like a house cat to these robots or something.
