First off Happy New Year to everyone as we can finally tell 2020 to kick rocks in a few hours.
Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher gave the media an update as we get ready to start training camp over these next few days. Most of the stuff was pretty normal with some injury notes and that the training camp roster would be announced on Saturday.
Everything seemed to be pretty standard until this…
Yes, that’s the same Sam Morin who was drafted as a defenseman. The 6’6 former defenseman will now start the year at left wing.
Morin is coming off of two ACL injuries and with how deep the Flyers are on defense it’s a good way to give the kid a shot at helping the team.
I honestly don’t hate the move, you can’t really go wrong with just testing it out. Plus, who wouldn’t want a 6’6 forward with solid skating ability. We have also seen stuff like this work in the past…Take a look at guys like Dustin Byfuglien and even Brent Burns.
We’re just gonna have to wait and see how this plays out but I’m at least happy to see that Morin is gonna get the chance to prove himself after everything he’s gone through.
