It may have taken a little longer than we all expected but finally the Philadelphia Flyers and defenseman Phil Myers have agreed to a new contract. Myers new deal will be a 3 year deal worth $2.55m annually.
I love this deal for Myers as its a nice contract not worth too much or for too long. Hopefully he outperforms this one and it will lead to a bigger deal for him in three years.
Myers is entering his third NHL season in which he has played pretty well and has shown a lot of potential. At only 23 years old Myers will likely be paired with Ivan Provorov as the Flyers top defensive pair. Myers has 18 points in 71 career games with the Orange and Black to go along with a +/- rating of +12.
The 6’5 defenseman will be a big part of the Flyers future going forward especially with the loss of veteran Matt Niskanen who retired this offseason. I fully expect Myers to grow into a top pairing defenseman and his play will only get better playing alongside Ivan Provorov. The Flyers could have a top shutdown pair developing on their hands and the future is looking really bright.
