Every day it seems like the NHL will not be returning to play in the 2021 season, and it is nice to see they are prepared for a few outcomes. Well it looks like if the NHL can’t do 48 games or more on the 2021 season, they may just scrap it all together.
There are quite a few things at play here for the NHL. They should have the season and playoffs done by the time the Summer Olympics are supposed to start. I don’t think the NHL wants to compete with the Olympics. It would be ideal for both the players and league to be done and have a summer off, and hopefully have a full 82 game season with 32 teams. The NBC TV deal also ends at the end of this season, and I hope they strike a new deal.
The NHL did have a 48-game season back in 2013, and it was successful. We also had the AHL and ECHL playing too, but it is what it is.
The hope is that when the season starts that fans will be able to be back in the stands of course, but as of this moment it does not look likely. I am really hoping that the NHL will return at the New Year, we will probably learn more the closer we get to WJCs
