Seemingly every year there is a bevy of amazing hockey play at the PPL Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The Phantoms put on a show every time they take the ice, and has been home to quite a few Flyers preseason games so far. It’s really nice seeing some of the best Flyers prospect dawn the Phantoms crest before hitting the big stage, and having to so close to Philadelphia again.
In 2017 the PPL Center and the Phantoms hosted the AHL All Star Game, and in 2018 the Phantoms made it to the third round of the Calder Cup Playoffs. The arena also hosted two NCAA Division One Men’s Ice Hockey Regions, those being in 2018 and 2019.
Well if you are in search of some competitive college hockey, its been announced that the PPL Center along with Penn State University will be hosting the 2022, 2023, and 2025 NCAA Men’s Hockey Regionals. Penn State has been accepted to host a few other NCAA events, but these three men’s hockey tournaments (along with the 2026 Women’s Frozen Four) are the ones that hold the most importance to me.
This is really exciting for Penn State Hockey Fans alongside any hockey fans in Pennsylvania. In 2019 Minnesota- Duluth came out of the Midwest Regional in Allentown, and ended up winning the entire tournament, winning the Frozen Four.
I for one, cannot wait to see some college hockey in Allentown again.
