NHL Postpones Winter Classic and All Star Weekend Over Corona

Intern Mitch

The National Hockey League announced this afternoon that they are postponing the 2021 Winter Classic and 2021 All-Star Weekend.

The 2021 Winter Classic was supposed be held at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minnesota between the Blues and Wild, featuring what would have been INSANE jerseys. While the Florida Panthers were going to host the All-Star Weekend in Sunrise, but obviously that is not happening next year.

While the Winter Classic may have started to lose its luster over the last few years, it’s still an event hockey fans look forward too. The All-Star Weekend, while its not insane competition, it is fun seeing the best of the best play with and against one another.

I personally am not saddened by the news, I saw this coming. These events are for the fans, and the NHL makes mad gate money from the events, so its cancelation is not surprising.

I am concerned about the financial future of the AHL and ECHL with now two ECHL sitting out the next season. Hockey is going to suffer the longer it takes for this to go away.
