Whats up fellas, tonight from Fight Island, we have a MASSIVE number 1 contender’s bout in the Featherweight division as we have #2 Brian Ortega taking on #4 The Korean Zombie, Chan Sung Jung.
This is about as high level of a fight as it gets. We havent seen Brian Ortega in 2 years, where he lost a world title fight to Max Holloway and then tore his ACL in training camp to fight Zombie. Man oh man this is a tough one to predict.
If you arent into watching MMA, i highly suggest you at the very least tune into this fight tonight. It has fight of the year contender written ALL over it. It’s unusual to see a fighter come back from a nearly two-year layoff and a dominant loss to a No. 1 contender fight. But that speaks to the unusual case of Brian Ortega. Has he shored up the holes that Holloway exposed, and learned how to maximize the potential that carried him to a title fight in the first place? Or did that one traumatic night against Holloway show his true ceiling?
Zombie has looked very very good since he returned to the octagon in 2017 following mandatory military service in South Korea (i know how WILD). His power is legit, and if it weren’t for the greatest knockout in history a couple years ago, he’d probably have a title shot by now. It’s really really hard for me to go against Zombie’s momentum right now, but I can’t shake this feeling that two years of change is going to make a world of difference for Ortega. If we see this new and improved version of Brian Ortega after 2 years on the sidelines, my goodness this division needs to watch out. What a scary proposition that would be if he has improved the holes in his game that Holloway exposed. I’m expecting a highly competitive back-and-forth fight of the night and i see Ortega taking this by submission in the 4th round.
In terms of betting here, man i really like the main and co main odds here. I’d take Ortega as a +155 dog, but if you’re on the fence then dont bet on this one. Its a toss up. I really like Katlyn Chookagian as a +135 underdog tonight, she’s my dog of the week against a former champion in a new weight class in Jessica Andrade.
Overall, this is a great card and a GREAT combat sports weekend with Lomachenko vs Lopez on ESPN tonight as well. LETS GO!
Also, how awesome is Brian Ortega? He cut off his BEAUTIFUL hair for Locks of Love and donated it to kids who are undergoing chemotherapy. We love to see it man.
