The Flyers wasted no time at all getting Zayde Wisdom signed up. I loved this pick when the Flyers made it, and he seems to be the first player in their 2020 Draft Class to get signed to their NHL Entry Level Concert. This contract does not count towards the 50 player contract limit.
Zayde is a Toronto Native that took the internet by storm when the Flyers drafted him last week. His name is apparently Yiddish which is very interesting. He was playing in the OHL last season, and now he has a shot to crack the Flyers lineup. Well, whenever the season starts, hopefully in January.
He won the 2020 E.J. McGuire Award for Excellence, which is awarded to the best prospect to show examples of excellence through the strength of their character.
If you have had time to look into his past, Wisdom did not always have it easy. His Father was not around growing up, and his Mother struggled to pay the bills. For Wisdom, he doesn’t want to make the NHL, he has too. He wants to make sure his family never struggles again. I’m loosely saying what he said in a post draft interview and in stories about his coming to the OHL.
Wisdom may not blow us away on a highlight real, but watching this guy play, man. He does not ever give up on a play, he doesn’t play at 120%, he’s full blow 200% whenever he is on the ice.
In the mean time, the Flyers did sign him to the maximum contract they are allowed to for an ELC player. Looks like Wisdom is standing true to what he says.
At 18, I really think he could crack the Flyers roster this next season. Even if he doesn’t, mark my words, we will see him soon.
