This is not surprising, even a little.
Well if you were on Twitter at all in the last week you saw this one coming. The former captain of the St. Louis Blues has officially unofficially signed with The Golden Knights for an absurd $8.8 million per season of the next 7 seasons. He will be about 37 when the deal expires.
Thankfully, he is now out of the Central.
There was brief rumors about him going to the Bruins, but with the Nevada tax, I think he made the right choice.
Sorry Flyers fans, if you thought he was coming here, there was no shot. There was plenty of roster room for him to come in but not even close to enough cap. Even more so when you sign EG and still have Myers and Patrick waiting on money.
The Golden Knights still have Hershey Bears fan favorite Nate Schmidt signed for almost $6 million till 2025, and Shea Theodore for a little over $5 million till the same year. Add on Alex Martinez’s $4 million for one more season.
I would expect them to move Martinez or Schmidt, both names that the Flyers have been connected to in the past, but with EG it seems financially impossible.
Expect more trades to come out of Vegas, as the solidify themselves as the powerhouse of the Pacific Division.
