Happy Friday everyone and happy free agent frenzy! That’s right noon today starts the busiest time of year for the NHL.
There’s a lot of big names available and some of them are about to get PAID. Free agency is always when teams overpay for players and it’ll be interesting to see if that’s the case this year with COVID. The uncertainty of team revenue going forward could play a major factor in some teams ability to make deals.
As a Flyers fan I’m not expecting too much noise from them today but hey ya never know. I’ll be locked in to TSN Free Agent Frenzy all day and I’ll have all the signings updated here once they come in. This blog will be updated just about every hour today Detriotso keep the tab open so you know who your team signs. Hopefully for my sake and yours today isn’t one of those super slow first days of free agency.
WE ARE LIVE!!! The NHL free agency period is officially open and lets get right to it here’s the signings that we had right as the signing period opened…

Ottawa Senators re-sign (G) Matt Murray to a 4 year deal worth $25m.
Little bit of a slower 1 o’clock hour but we had some bigger names get signed with the goalies being the biggest names. As for some of the other big names out there, there’s a strong chance we don’t have an update on Taylor Hall today. He has a lot of teams interested in him as expected and you have to think he will take his time to make a decision, never say never though…
Florida Panthers sign (F) Alex Wennberg to a 1 year deal worth $2.25m
Edmonton Oilers re-sign (F) Tyler Ennis to a 1 year deal.
zzzzzz, when the biggest news of the hour is two small signings and the idea that the Rangers are thinking about bringing in Jack Johnson you know it was a slow hour…Hopefully the action picks back up a little bit here.
Anaheim Ducks sign (F) Derek Grant.
Nashville Predators sign (D) Mark Borowiecki to a 2 year deal worth $4m.
New York Rangers sign (D) Jack Johnson to a 1 year deal worth $1m.
Anaheim Ducks sign (D) Kevin Shattenkirk to a 3 year deal worth $11.7m.
Washington Capitals sign (D) Justin Schultz to a 2 year deal.
I’d be lying if I said I didn’t doze of a little bit during the 3 o’clock hour. Not much going on still and it seems like we may have to be waiting a little while for the bigger names to decide where they want to go. Two hours left in the TSN Free Agent Frenzy show and I don’t see much else going down..
*Cracks beer* I think thats gonna do it for the hourly updates people, can’t see much more big news happening for the time being. Only thing I will say is it has been reported that the Flyers are interested in TJ Brodie and honestly I’d be alright with him coming to Philly. I’ll blog it if/when he actually signs don’t worry.
