In 2017 the Rangers selected Lias Andersson 7th overall in a, what was supposed to be, franchise changing draft. Andersson is a 6 foot center who was playing for HV71 when he was drafted.
Lias never really got his traction with the Ranger after getting drafted. He played for the Wolf Pack in his first year in North America, and bounced back and fourth for the Rangers. He played 66 games on Broadway only recording 9 points.
This is a change of scenery pick, he couldn’t quite hack it in New York or Hartford and finished his season last year back with HV71 where he put up 12 points in 15 games before the season ended.
It is so strange to see a top ten pick get straight up traded for a second round pick three years later. Lias Andersson is only 21, but we knew for about a year now he wanted out of New York. Also helps that his Dad works for the Kings.
The Rangers got the 60th overall pick for Lias, and used it for absolute unit Will Cuylle. Will is a 6’3″ left handed defensemen who is currently playing for Windsor in the OHL. He was slated to play for Penn State University before deciding to go to the CHL. Before the season ended he put up 22 goals and 20 assists in 62 games for the Rangers. He is extremely consistent in the OHL and with some holes on the Rangers Blue Line, he will be in a Rangers uniform in no time.
