I mean…..you spent over $300 million dollars on the guy, maybe, just maybe. Resign his favorite teammate of all time? He basically asked you to go and trade for him, you did. Now he’s asking you to agree to the guy long term and you’re refusing. Why? Explain it to me so I can understand. I want to understand. I’m not even being rude, I truly just need to know why they are acting like he isn’t the best player at his position by a mile.
The fear here has to be now, if the Phillies ownership keeps disrespecting Realmuto, does Harper say I want out? Before this season I’d say, no shot a guy that just signed a 13 year, $330 million deal requests a trade after two years. But now, I’m not so sure. If I were a franchise type of talent, in the prime of my career and the organization I was playing for kept ruining my title chances. I’d start to think about other options.
Even if the Phillies don’t want to dish out what it’s going to take to sign JT, they should. Not only has his play earned him the amount he’ll get, you can’t put your best player in a position to think about forcing his way out. Not to mention all the rumors about where JT would go are in the division. Seeing Realmuto in a Mets or Braves jersey would be a killer. And I’m sure hearing Bryce Harper yell, ‘should have signed him!!!’ After JT hits a walk off homer for the Braves to send the Phillies out of the playoff picture next year, won’t feel great either.
Do the right thing, sign JT
