Wow, I did not think he would go to Columbus of all places, but he is a perfect fit. Max Domi along with a third round pick in tomorrows draft are going to Columbus in exchange for struggling forward Josh Anderson.
Lets unpack this. Josh Anderson is still extremely young in the grand scheme of the NHL and player age at only 26. He’s been great for Columbus as a 4th round pick in 2012. He has floated around 30 points a season, with a high of 47 points last season. We just finished the 2019-2020 season and he only had 4 points in 26 games, and from I can gather he didn’t play in the bubble for the Blue Jackets at all.
I have talked about Max Domi a few times, and I love this guy. He was drafted 12th overall in the 2013 draft and in 5 NHL seasons split between Arizona and Montreal he has put up 81 goals and 170 assists. He’s put up a pretty impressive 251 points in 375 NHL games. He only recorded 3 assists in the bubble. Max Domi is going to be a free agent, but I do think that Columbus will get him locked down, and they got a third round pick.
I really think Max Domi can plug right into a already youthful and energetic forward core that Columbus has crafted, seemingly out of no where. Add on to that they get another pick to restock a prospect core that came after the Matt Duchene playoff run where they traded picks and the farm.
The trade looks odd at first, but if the Blue Jackets can get him signed, this looks like an absurdly one sided deal. I can’t wait till some more comes out on this.
