Little bit of a low key Thursday move here. It was announced late this afternoon that The Flyers checked off a box on the laundry list of offseason moves they need to make. The signed the absolute rock that is Nicolas Aube-Kubel, thats right, the owner of the second coolest name on The Flyers is back for another two years in orange and black.
NAK, who is a whopping two months older than me got paid today. Signing a two year $1.075 million per season contract. The Alberta native played 4 seasons of QMJHL hockey on the other side of Canada for the Val-d’Or Foreurs, that’s the teams actual name. He scored 108 goals along side 136 assists in 251 regular season games for the Foreurs. Add into that a impressive 57 playoff games with 13 goals and 19 assets in that span. The Flyers snagged him in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft, that was in Philadelphia, in the second round 48th overall. The 2014 draft in my opinion was the second best draft the Flyers had in the last decade. That was the Travis Sanhiem, Oskar Lindblom, and Mark Friedman draft.
He was solid for the Phantoms up the Turnpike. He suited up for 229 regular season games for the Phantoms and 14 post season games. Combing playoffs and season he put up 50 goals and 55 goals in the AHL. Projecting to be a pretty solid bottom six forward.
He is now the perfect second round pick for the Flyers, last season splitting time between Philly and LV. He played 36 games for the Flyers last season before Corona and put 15 points in 36 games and 3 points in 13 playoff games in Toronto. I am really thrilled with this signing, and think if he plays along side Nolan Patrick the Flyers would have an absolutely lethal third line.
Safe to say I think he is graduated from the Phantoms.
Is it December yet?
