Who Could The Flyers Take In The First Round?

Intern Mitch

Well that sucks, but at least its over and we know where the Flyers stand. They did not show a whole lot offensively, but they did make it to the second round. I think the Flyers can go up from here, they got some young guys coming and hopefully Giroux and company can keep up for a few more years.

Anyway, looking forward to the draft. The Flyers have the 23rd overall pick in the 2020 draft, and that is a pretty solid spot for a contender, you can get some dimes at 23. I went on three different mock draft sites to see who they could pick at 23, that way you don’t have too. I have no life so its chill with me!

Justin Barron - The Process - Neutral Zone - Men's

Justin Barron- Defensemen- Halifax (QMJHL)

This first one is from draftsite.com. Even though the Flyers have a boat load of defensemen and defense prospects, I really think that they could take another in the first round, the cabinet is pretty stocked at forward and goalie. Justin Barron is a 6’2′ 198 pound right handed shot, something the Flyers desperately needed on the back end. He plays for my favorite QMJHL team, the Halifax Mooseheads. Justin has played most of his young career in Halifax, playing for Halifax ACCEL Hawks Major Bantam, where he was a captain in his final year. Hes played three season for the Mooseheads now for three seasons, with a COVID shortened season. In 153 games he put up 15 goals and 52 assists for 81 points. I don’t think these are low, you have to remember that he only played 34 games last season. He also put up 2 goals and 11 assists in 23 playoff games in 2019. I really like this guy, I hope that they can get him. I would kill to see him tear up the AHL with Cam York.

Jacob Perreault - The Process - Neutral Zone - Men's

Jacob Perreault- Right Wing- Sarnia (OHL)

This guy comes from mynhldraft.com. They have the Flyers picking Jacob Perreault 23rd overall next month. Jacob is a 5’11” right handed right winger who is finished his second season with the Sarnia when Corona shut them down. He’s had two pretty successful seasons with The Sting. Hes played 120 games so far for Sarnia, and has put up 69 goals, and 56 assists in that time. I don’t always like seeing more goals than assists, but I didn’t get a chance to watch any of the Sarnia games last season. Maybe the dudes just filthy, maybe he holds on to the puck to long. We ill have to see. He could end as a top of the team scorer in a few years. So far the Flyers have not shortage of quality players at 23.

QMJHL - Shawinigan Cataractes NHL Prospects (12/8/19) - Neutral Zone - Men's

Marvik Bourque- Center- Shawinigan- (QMJHL)

This picks comes from tankathon.com, and they the Flyers picking the 5’11” right handed center from Quebec. Hes currently playing for the Shawinigan Cataractes in the QMJHL. Hes had the best junior showing of all three of the players I wrote about today. Hes played 113 games in the Q and has amassed a pretty solid amount of numbers for just being 18. Hes put up 49 goals and 71 assists. He also put up 2 goals and 3 assists in the 2019 playoffs, where they only played 6 games. When it comes to Marvik, the number one question here is size. He’s only 18 and has plenty of time to bulk up, and has drawn many comparissions to our own Travis Konecny.

But, I dont want to give up to much as I am going to do in depth analysis on all three of these players as we get closer to the draft. I am going to another article similar to this on the second round, and I can’t do the third since they traded the damn thing away.
