Man, that was a ride. The Avalanche were up most of the game, and could have put it way multiple times. Who would have thought that an undrafted free agent forward, who just signed an ELC last may, would put the dagger in Colorado’s heart.
Joel Kiviranta, who only played 11 games this season before game 7 today, scored a hat trick, sending the Avalanche back to Denver, and bursting their bubble.
I don’t think that the Avalanche have anything to be ashamed of. They came back from 3-1, and overcame a slew of injuries to take this game to overtime. Colorado is only going to get better from here, even more so with an exciting free agency coming up. Also add in a massively deep draft, and I would not be surprised if Joe Sakic has a few tricks up his sleeve.
The real stand out star in this series was Nathan MacKinnon for me. The man had 25 points in 14 playoff games this year, and he isn’t even 25. They even got some scoring from guys you wouldn’t expect, and some big players stepped up. But in my opinion, depth and injuries got to them on this one; and it is what it is. I think the Avalanche should look into one of the numerous goalies that are going to be available this fall. This Avalanche team isn’t going anywhere anytime soon, and still could by the start of a Mile High Dynasty.
Is it December yet?
