Back for another edition of the BEST Stanley Cup Playoff blog out there it’s your boy Walsh with another Stanley Cupdate! Two games were on tap last night both being elimination games including my Philadelphia Flyers who were on the brink of elimination. So lets not waste anymore time and get right into all the action that went down…
Philadelphia Flyers vs New York Islanders-Game 5
To say I was stressed during this game would be an understatement. The blood pressure was through the roof, my neighbors if they didn’t already probably hate me. The Flyers fell behind early but were able to fight back to tie the game at one. They would actually even get up 3-1 early into the third period. Then things fell apart and the Islanders came back to tie it with less than 3 minutes remaining. So we would head to overtime. I’ll be the first to say I LOVE overtime playoff hockey it’s the best thing in the world…unless you’re team is playing in it. That was the case here as the Flyers season could’ve been ended with one shot so you can imagine what I was going through. But, my guy Scott Laughton was the hero as he deflected one past Varlamov for the victory. Game 6 is Thursday night at 7pm on NBCSN.
Islanders lead series 3-2
Vegas Golden Knights vs Vancouver Canucks-Game 5
Another elimination game to end the night as the Knights looked to sent the Canucks home. I miss a majority of this game so I do apologize to all you viewers out there. From what I did see though, this was a tightly contested physical game. Vegas would jump out to a 1-0 lead with about five minutes left in the second period but that last a whole 24 seconds before the Canucks tied it up. Then just three minutes into the third period Elias Pettersson would score to give Vancouver a 2-1 lead. Rookie goaltender Thatcher Demko would shut the door on the Knights and would keep Vancouver’s season alive for at least one more game. Game 6 is Thursday at 9:45 on NBCSN.
