BREAKING: Blues Trade Allen

The St. Louis Blues made news today as they traded away one of their goaltenders. Jake Allen was shipped up to the Montreal Canadiens for a couple of draft picks.

This move makes sense for the Blues because they have Jordan Binnington who already won them a Stanley Cup and they need to clear some cap space. This trade clears up a little room for them but I fully expect them to make a few more deals as well to get money off the books.

As for Montreal, they already have Carey Price who yes, he’s getting older but they have some quality young goalies in their system as well. Allen will most likely just spend the final year of his contract with the Habs and then hit the free agency. I’m not sure I fully understand this one from Montreal’s stand point but hey they don’t pay me to be the GM.

Either way, Montreal gets a solid backup and St. Louis clears some cap space so it’s a trade that seems to benefit both teams.
