Apparently early this morning a trade was announced that Toronto Maple Leafs forward Kasperi Kapanen has been traded back to the Pittsburgh Penguins, the team that drafted him. Elliotte Friedman leaked it this morning:
This is not surprising as The Maple Leafs were embarrassingly eliminated in the play in round at the hands of The Columbus Blue Jackets. Its even more sour because they signed John Tavares and traded away Nazem Kadri to Colorado for Kerfoot and Barrie.
Kasperi was drafted 22nd overall in the 2014 NHL draft by the Pittsburgh Penguins, but was in a multiplayer blockbuster deal for Phil Kessel which helped the team win two Stanely Cups. Kasperi or Kap has an interesting Philadelphia connection though. He was born in Kuopio, Finland but considers himself a Philly Native. He spent a good chunk of his youth around the City of Brotherly Love while his father was a member of our Philadelphia Flyers.
No details of the trade have been leaked, I didnt even know players could be traded during this time of the “season” so this was a surprise to me! Its not a surprising move though, as early exits for The Maple Leafs has become way to common, and they are honestly better than that.
