Well good evening to you too Michael. If you missed the Phillies game last night and just saw this clip you might think to yourself. “Wow the Phillies must have lost by 30.” Not the case, they actually pulled off a 13-8 victory. And I use the term pulled off because Nick Pivetta tried everything in his power to lose that game last night.
The Phillies were up 13-1 going into the 9th. As Barkann said, Nola pitched a gem. 8 innings, 2 hits, 1 ER and 10 Ks. He was only at 89 pitches so I would have let him ride it out but that’s just me. Anyway, Nick Pivetta comes in and in just 0.1 innings of work he gives up 6 hits, 6 ERs and strikes out no one. Taking his ERA to an eye popping 15.88.
Now, I don’t want to be one of those, ‘I could do that’ guys when it comes to sports. Pro athletes are much better at their sport than I am or will be. Buuuuuuut. In baseball, I feel like I could accidentally get out two batters without giving up 6 runs. I mean you put it down the middle and let the fielders do the rest. Also I pitch way to slow for the ball to get any sort of exit velocity.
Back to Barkann, he isn’t wrong. Nick isn’t a major leaguer and needs to sit down for a little bit. We (Phillies fans) have been waiting for the Nick Pivetta break out year for 4 years now. I don’t think it’s ever coming.
