Its FIGHT NIGHT again folks. Been a busy last couple weeks here for MMA folks. Its exhausting, but 100% worth it.
Tonight, from Fight Island in Abu Dhabi, we have 2 MASSIVE fights to look out for.
Flyweight championship: No. 1 Deiveson Figueiredo (-200) vs. No. 2 Joseph Benavidez (+170)
The main event will see Deiveson Figueiredo vs Joseph Benavidez for the vacant Flyweight Championship of the world. This is the smallest weight class in the UFC for men and its been almost completely shut down in the past until Henry Cejudo saved it from Uncle Dana.
If you guys dont remember this fight happened about 5 months ago for the same vacant title, Figueiredo won by TKO in the 2nd round but couldn’t win the title because he missed weight. Very unfortunate for all involved.
In terms of how this championship fight will play out, well i truthfully am rooting for Benavidez tonight. I predicted his win last time around and im not going to shy away this time. Only 2 Fighters in history have been granted a UFC title shot after going 0-3 in championship bouts. Benavidez is the second, and the other is Urijah Faber, who also lost in his fourth try at a belt. 4 title fight! Crazy! Imagine, he’s worked his whole life to reach the mountain top and has gotten so close 3 different times with tonight being his 4th? Insane. I see Benavidez coming in with a more disciplined approach. Last time these two faced, we saw Benavidez throwing everything he had hoping for a TKO, I think this time we are more likely to see a classic Benavidez with plenty of grappling. In saying that Figueiredo has made weight this time round, with the weight cut comes a loss of power. I’m predicting Benavidez to secure the title, wearing Figueiredo out in grappling exchanges and getting a TKO in the Championship rounds. What a story a Benavidez title win would be.

In the co main event we have a HUGE Middleweight bout between top contenders between #6 Jack Hermansson and #7 Kelvin Gastelum, both of whom are coming off tough losses. Gastelum lost in an iconic fight again Middleweight champion Israel Adesanya and then another close one to Darren Till. I refuse to bet against Gastelum tonight. He’s talked about his depression problems following these last 2 losses and seems like he’s ready to get back in the winning column. This is his seventh straight main or co-main event, and he has won post-fight bonuses for four of his past six bouts, including the loss to Adesanya. He’s always bringing the fight to his opponent.
Jack Hermansson is super dangerous but this is a tall task for him. Both fighters are coming off defeats but I feel Kelvin Gastelum will get the job done over Jack Hermansson. Hermansson is coming off a knockout defeat and Gastelum packs heavy power. Gastelum is also notably a wrestler at heart so it won’t be the easiest time taking him down to Hermansson’s world. Add in the fact that Gastelum has had a considerably long layoff since November and seems to be in a good place, I predict he’ll win by knockout in the second or third round and remind the world why he was rated so highly in the first place.
While the card itself might not be great or ideal, these last 2 fights on the card are MUST SEE high level matchups between some of the best in the world has to offer. I highly highly recommend tuning in when the co main is starting if anything.
Another great night of fights is coming. Buckle up. The greatest sport promotion and the greatest commissioner in history are coming in HOT over these other leagues.
