After a decent PPV to kick off UFC Fight Island this past weekend, we’re now looking ahead to some other big fights we could see coming up. We already have the third and final fight between Daniel Cormier and Stipe Miocic coming up in August but after that card we’re not too sure.
We also don’t know who is next in line for a title shot against Kamaru Usman after he hugged and toe stomped his way to victory over Jorge Masvidal. Which brings us to this fight, Colby Covington vs Tyron Woodley. According to Ariel Helwani, there has been a lot of talk and it could be very close to being finalized in the near future.
In my opinion this is the best fight to make for both these guys. Plus, it’s one that fans have also been wanting to see for quite some time. While I still think Gilbert Burns gets his chance next, after him one of these two guys could be the next challenger. There is always Leon Edwards who is very deserving of a title opportunity as well.
As for Woodley/Covington, yes Woodley has lost his last two fights but he is still a dangerous man and a top contender. As for Covington, he hasn’t fought since he lost to Usman back at UFC 245.
Now, I’m gonna get this out of the way…I am a Colby Covington fan…*Hides* it has nothing to do with his political views and I by no means am saying he’s a great person. I like him strictly for the fact that he is a great villain and I love me a great antagonist. I mean this dude went from being a nobody to being one of the most hated UFC fighters out there. Covington did what he had to do to make him self relevant and I have to respect that. Plus if you don’t have haters are you really making a name for yourself?
The back and forth trash talk leading up to this one would be great and I think the fight itself would deliver as well. Woodley is still an all time great and Covington has proven that he can hang with the big boys of the division. I for one am really rooting for this fight to happen.
