We got a huge Heavyweight main event tonight folks featuring #3 Curtis Blaydes battling Russian native #7 Alexander Volkov. There are certainly some big implications for this bout as the winner, especially if it’s in impressive fashion could be in line for a title shot, although that is for Francis Ngannou at the moment in the heavyweight division.
In terms of this fight playing out. Id toss all my money on Blaydes. Its going to be all Blaydes tonight. That’s the popular opinion, and I’d love to go against the grain, but I just don’t see it. Especially in a small Octagon, with less room for Volkov to hide from Blaydes’ forward pressure and extremely relentless takedown ability. This is about as bad of a matchup for Volkov as you can draw up on paper. However, it’s a heavyweight fight, so anything can happen with one blow to the dome. But that’s about the only thing you can say in Volkov’s favor. I think Blaydes enforces his will on Volkov and inside the smaller cage especially at heavyweight, I see Blaydes winning this one via ground and pound within the first 2 rounds.
Other fights to look out for tonight, it’s actually not too bad of a card in terms of names and elite fighters entering the octagon. The co-main with Josh Emmett and Shane Burgos is a banger and my prediction for Fight of the Night. Watch for Women’s Bantamweight action with Raquel Pennington and Marion Renau. Lyman Good is someone im high on, and then LONG TIME veterans Jim Miller and Clay Guida are on this card as well with Guida closing the prelims and Miller opening the main.
All in a all a good night of fights and for FREE on ESPN. LETS GO!
