There are a lot of controversial beefs over the years for one reason or another, but one we probably never saw coming was the Governor of Pennsylvania and Steelers quarterback, Ben Roethlisberger.
The last time we saw Big Ben, he was doing a PSA for the Steelers encouraging people to stay inside (that becomes ironic here in a second). But what everyone took away from the video was his grizzly appearance that made him look like the West Virginia Mountaineers mascot.
Fast forward to this week and Ben has a newer, cleaner look in his video announcing his return. Once again, the message wasn’t the takeaway from the video, but rather his appearance. He had clearly gotten a haircut, and even the Governor of PA, Tom Wolf, took notice.
“My concern is just a general concern and anybody who puts himself or herself into harm’s way is something i think we ought to try to avoid,” Wolf said in response to a question about Roethlisberger specifically. “And when you go to something like a barbershop and you’re not protected, I don’t care who you are. The chances of that virus wreaking havoc on your life increases.”
I’m not going to get political with this face off between a quarterback and a Governor. Go ahead and form your own opinions. I know, you’re a disease ecologist and economics expert now that you’ve watch 3 weeks of Fox and Friends. Congrats.
What we SHOULD be focusing on is Roethlisberger’s look in the first place? How do you let your facial appearance get that out of whack? Apparently, he said he wasn’t getting a haircut (or trim) until he could throw NFL passes again. Now he can, which prompted the haircut. What a strange campaign to just look homeless because you hurt your elbow.
While you’re here, enjoy this hot take: Steelers back to the playoffs this year, possibly winning the division OVER Lamar and the Ravens. Pittsburgh’s defense is incredible. They almost made the playoffs last year using the duck hunter as a QB. They were competent quarterback play away from being really good. With Ben back (and freshly shaved), they have that and should be a legitimate contender.
