Listen, it’s only spring training. I get it but the numbers are the numbers and the numbers aren’t great. So far this spring through 7 games Didi Gregorius has a disappointing slash line of .000/.100/.000. Not exactly ideal for you first 20 plate appearances with a team. Once again, just spring training buuuuuuuuuut to be fair. If we are pumped up for Bryce and the moonshots he is hitting, you can’t then just ignore players under performing.
Bryce Harper has appeared in 5 Spring Training games this year:
– He’s slashing .400/.500/1.400.
– Has 3 home runs over his last 2 games.
– Has walked (3) more than he’s struck out (2).
– Has 10 RBI in 10 at-bats.
Sure, Spring numbers don’t matter, but he’s going off.

The only reason I am beginning to get a little bit concerned is because Didi is coming off a year where he only played in 82 games due to Tommy John and hit .238. The infield for this team is already a little bit shaky, the Phillies need some consistency in 2020. Didi will most likely bat 5th in this line up, so to say his production is critical to the Phillies 2020 success would be a vast understatement. He might be just a stopgap at short stop until Bohem gets up to the big leagues and rearranges that infield. Either way, the Phillies need to get at least .250, 20 homers and 70+ RBIs out of him this year. He does that and it’s considered a win.
I think Didi is just like the rest of us and can’t wait for opening day. Only 20 sleeps left.
