The Flyers are the hottest team in Philadelphia right now. That might just be because its Spring Training for baseball, but I would personally run through a wall for Bryce Harper. Earlier this season, yours, mine, and everyone’s favorite mascot was wrongfully accused of assault on a child. Even the Philadelphia Police Department (the best police department in the world) were brought in, and Gritty was set free. Since gritty was acquitted of his charges the Flyers are 12-3 and have outscored opponents 60-34. Does Gritty being innocent have anything to do with the Flyers success? Absolutely not, but it’s hilarious that someone tried to get a mascot arrested.
The Flyers are on a 8 game winning streak. Not to already be negative, but two years ago the Flyers lost ten games, and made the playoffs. Then the next season they won ten and missed the playoffs. Those two stats don’t mean much because both of those Flyers teams were competing for the second wildcard spot, not the division title.
The first thing that can be attributed to the Flyers Success is Carter Hart’s insane play at home and Brian Elliot’s play on the road. Right now Carter Hart has an absolutely phat home record of 19-2-2 this season. Is he the goalie we have been waiting for? Absolutely! Here is me hoping that the Flyers have a goalie twosome to rival Snow and Hextall. Brian Elliot may not be sexiest goalie in net for the lack of a better term, but he gets the wins.
For the past decade, the Flyers have emphasized drafting defense, look at Nashville. Nashville is sadly slipping as they are falling for the unfortunate Matt Duchene poison, but their defense carried them in the last few years. Heres the Flyers Defense Draft picks the last couple of years:
Gostisbehere- 2012 78th overall
Sam Morin 2013 11th overall
Robert Hagg 2013 41st overall
Travis Sanheim 2014 17th overall
Mark Friedman 2014 86th overall
Ivan Provorov 2015 7th overall
Cam York 2019 13th overall
I didn’t even mention all of them, its insane how many great defensemen the Flyers have plucked.
If you add two absolute free agent steals in Egor Zamula and Phil Myers. And then the trades for Nisky and Braun. The Flyers defense is solid, with some of the best prospects not even here yet. The Flyers have a D-Core playing so well, Gostisbehere isn’t even in the lineup, he has to be itching to get in on this. Last night when Provorov buried the first goal of the game, it was the Flyers D-Core’s league leading 44th goal of the season.

Add on to outstanding goal-tending, and a defense group that scores more then 30 other teams, they have an insanely good offense. The first line is stacked with Giroux, who I would follow into hell, Coots, and Voracek. Then the second line with TK, Farabee, and Kevin Hayes. The Flyers are also getting some help from the bottom six with Pitlick, NAK, Raffl, and Laughton all finding the net. Even Nate Thompson and Derek Grant are contributing to the score sheet!

What a time to be a Flyers fan. Don’t forget to gear up here for the Stanley Cup run! Flyers play Buffalo tomorrow, for what should be another 2 points, and their ninth win in a row!
Lets go Flyers!
