The Byron Jones To The Eagles Rumors Are Heating Up

(Former) Dallas Cowboys cornerback Byron Jones seems to be the big free agent pick up the Eagles will focus on this off-season. He’s looking at about $17 million a year and around $60 million guaranteed according to Adam Schefter on 97.5 this morning.

The 27 year old CB played 15 games last year and was targeted only 64 times with a completion% of 53.1 while only giving up 3 touchdowns. In 2018, he had a banner year according to Pro Football Focus grading out to seventh overall among CBs. In 2019, he dipped to 76.1 according to PFF. This move by Dallas is strictly a salary cap one as they are focused on paying Dak and Amari Cooper this off-season while already giving $90 million to Zeke.

Chances are you’re weary of the Eagles signing a big free agent cornerback especially under Howie Roseman. We gave Byron Maxwell 6 years/$63 million and Nnamdi Asomugha 5 years/$60 million. One became burnt toast and another rather play onstage then on the field.

One thing about Byron Jones is, he’s an absolute freak. He had one of the best Scouting Combines since Mike Mumula (lol) which basically launched him from a 3rd or 4th rounder to a lock for the 1st at pick 27. He set the broad jump world record…at a Scouting Combine. Eight inches further than the previous record. These pictures look fake…

Well shit if Byron Jones doesn’t work out at least we’ll definitely get every beat reporter tweet about how “fluid” and “athletic” he looks. I can see Sheil Kapadia writing about how he “activates the hips perfectly” and Jimmy Kempski drawing Byron Jones stick figures with rocket launchers for legs and bowling balls for hips. The Spring ball pieces will write themselves how he’s the hardest worker on the field and Nnamdi & Byron were never like that, which is why we shouldn’t worry about him not living up to his contract. Roob will have some stat that will compare him to Deion Sanders. I’m going to consume all of it.
