The Phillie Phanatic Is Embroiled In A Messy Lawsuit That Could Change Him Forever

So the Phillies have been embroiled in a lawsuit with the original creators of the Phanatic, Bonnie Erickson and Wayde Harrison, for a couple of years now. Basically the Phillies own the Phanatic, but the feds allow artists to negotiate rights up to 35 years after. So Bonnie and Wayde tried to cash in. I ain’t mad at ’em.

The Phillies filed a lawsuit against the creators and figured it would be re-solved rather quickly and easily, but that wasn’t the case. The Phillies officially lose all rights to the Phanatic on June 15th unless this case is resolved. So now the Phillies are making changes to the mascot, hoping that it’ll be enough that the court will resolve this case. According to Jim Salisbury, it looks like we may be getting a skinnier Phanatic with different socks and shoes. Maybe we’ll get a new Phanatic altogether so here are some potential options.

P.S. You think Branded pulls some copyright infringement with their shirts now. You ain’t seen nothing if the Phanatic is deemed free game on June 15th. It’ll get into the Internet Wild West. I’ll put the Phanatic on some many different shirts DSGNTree’s head will be spinning!
