After a grueling and excruciating summer of wait, then preseason of waiting, it finally happened. The Colorado Avalanche have finally opened their wallet and signed Mikko Rantanen to a massive 6 year $55.5 million dollar contract! The 22 year old Finish superstar was the last domino in a long line of RFA holdouts that deserved to get paid. (Minus that one dude in Winnipeg, the signed him so the team wouldn’t implode.)
Mikko was drafted 10th overall in 2015, and since then has put up 209 points in 239 games. Not to mention 18 points in 18 playoff games. Hopefully he is on his way back to Denver right now so we can get the ball rolling on a huge season for the Avs. Mikko is an absolute sauce machine to Nathan MacKinnon on the Avs elite top line.
The question now is, with Mikko making $9+ million a season. How much is Mac going to cost when his contract runs up?
